Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), in Washington DC. In the following two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. In 1980, she began covering the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to cover White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget in addition to the arms control. She traveled widely along with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
